Accounting and Tax
“Compliance” is the word we use for the financial tasks that have to be undertaken because it’s a legal requirement rather than because they necessarily add much value to the business. This includes:
- Preparing and filing annual accounts.
- Operating payroll arrangements and the PAYE/NIC system.
- Preparing and filing VAT returns.
- Preparing and filing Corporation Tax returns.
- Preparing and filing individual Self-Assessment Tax Returns.
We love to help our clients grow their businesses, but most of them want us to look after some or all of their compliance for them, and we are fully resourced to do that. Our clients typically don’t get very excited about compliance matters, and in truth neither do we. However, we do know the importance to the business of ensuring that everything is done properly and on time and we will make sure that this is what happens.
We strive to make sure that the compliance work we do for our clients is complimentary to the more value-added services we offer. When we are undertaking compliance work we are always looking for opportunities to suggest business improvements and to save tax. Whilst our firm and its principals have never taken part in or referred clients into aggressive tax avoidance schemes, our up-to-date knowledge of SME tax planning techniques means we can often make clients aware of reliefs and allowances they didn’t know about or suggest structuring clients’ businesses in a different way to take advantage of favourable tax treatments that are intended by law to be available to them.
